Abstract:
This is a dataset of ice motion from a single GNSS receiver at Site GNSS-C on Isunnguaa Sermia in West Greenland that captures the ice dynamic response to the drainage of an ice-marginal lake as described in Livingstone et al. (2026). The dataset covers the period 24 August 2023 - 27 November 2023 and comprises records of ice surface position at a 10 second, 10 minute, and 1 day interval. Ice surface velocity is provided at a intervals of 10 minutes and 1 day.

| Quality: | Prior to filtering of the position record samples were removed if tolerances were exceeded for the following variables: root mean square of position; standard deviation of the X, Y, and Z coordinates; atmospheric delay and the number of unfixed carrier phase ambiguities. Samples were also removed where the number of double differences was less than 4. The tolerance for each of these variables and the number of samples removed are stated in the .log file. Data removal is via boolean flags with the 'anom[x]' variables as explained in the '[filename]-metadata.json' files. Missing values in the .csv files are defined as NaN. Positioning uncertainties were estimated at around 0.01 m in the horizontal and around 0.02 m in the vertical by calculating the standard deviation of the residuals from linear regression applied to the position time series during a month-long period of steady ice motion in November 2023. |

| Lineage/Methodology: | Time series of horizontal and vertical ice surface motion were determined from dual frequency (L1 + L2) Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) data recorded by a Leica GS10 receiver at 0.1 Hz. GNSS antenna was mounted on a 6m-long aluminium pole drilled 5m into the ice surface. Rapid re-freezing of the hole secured the antenna pole within the ice. Data were post-processed kinematically (King, 2004) relative to a bedrock-mounted reference station using the differential carrier-phase positioning software Track v1.53 (Chen, 1998). The baseline length was 4.0 km and precise ephemerides from the International GNSS Service were used (Dow et al., 2009). Positioning uncertainties were estimated at around 0.01m in the horizontal and around 0.02m in the vertical by calculating the standard deviation of the residuals from linear regression applied to the position time series during a month-long period of steady ice motion in November 2023. Small (less than 5 min) gaps in the position record were linearly interpolated before a second-order 6h low-pass Butterworth filter was applied. The position record was then resampled to 10 minute medians and differentiated to calculate velocity, which was further filtered using a 6h moving average. Daily mean velocities were calculated from the filtered 10-min interval velocity record. To prevent phase shifts, phase preserving filters, differentiation, and resampling methods were used throughout. | |
