Medium resolution dataset of rock outcrop in Antarctica. Data have been prepared from various map and remotely sensed datasets ranging from 1960s-2023. This dataset has been generalised from the high resolution version. The large majority of data was compiled in 1993 and the quality and accuracy is uncertain. The automatically extracted rock outcrop layer provides a more accurate dataset in most locations. Changes in v7.10 include new data for the South Orkney Islands. Source attributes have also been added for some of the older data, although many are still missing. See the lineage for further details. Exact data sources are currently missing from the attribute table for the majority of data – the large majority was compiled in 1993 digitized from the USGS 1:250k reconnaissance series maps dating from 1960s-1990s and DOS 1:250k series maps dating from 1960s and 1970s. Exact data sources can be provided on request in the format of vector lines. The data newly added for the v7.10 release (South Orkney Islands) was generalised from the high resolution version by deleting polygons < 0.02 km2 in size. Please note: due to the versioning of the ADD, there are no versions 7.4-7.9 for this specific dataset.
