Abstract:
This dataset represents model output from 4 simulations of Store Glacier produced using the Elmer/Ice glacier model equipped with novel 3D calving subroutines. As described in the paper associated with this dataset (Todd et al., JGR, 2018), the model is initialised with velocity observations and then forced with present day environmental forcing. The simulation covers a 5 year time period with no fixed dates.
Funding was provided by the NERC grant NE/K500884/1.

Lineage: | Data were produced using the glaciological model Elmer/Ice with newly developed 3D calving subroutines. The model development, boundary conditions and initialisation are described in detail in Todd et al. (2018, in press). The code constituting the 3D calving model has been made freely available via integration with the Elmer/Ice source code, available at: https://github.com/ElmerCSC/elmerfem/tree/elmerice. |

Data Storage: | The dataset is approximately 60MB. The timeseries data are in comma delimited .dat format. Raw model output is in .vtu or .pvtu format. File information: .dat files ==== These are timeseries data including the data presented in the publication (Todd et al., in press). Three digit numbers refer to different simulations: 000 - No environmental forcing at terminus 001 - Distributed plume melting 011 - Distributed & conical plume melting 111 - Distributed & conical plume melting and ice melange buttressing. StoreOutput_berg_*.dat ---- These tables include the time, volume and position of each iceberg calved during the simulation. StoreOutput_frontshape_*.dat ---- These tables show, for each timestep, the points which make up the glacier terminus. StoreOutput_frontave_*.dat ---- These tables show the terminus mean velocity and distance along the fjord for each timestep. StoreOutput_masscomp_*.dat ---- These tables show all the components of the terminus mass budget through time. (p)vtu files ==== These are raw model output from timestep 48 of Simulation 111 (used to produce the crevasse penetration figures in Todd et al. (in press)). plane_StoreCalving3D_Sik1_PlaM1_BasM1_PluM1_1__0048.vtu is the 2D planar mesh generated by the model to compute crevasse penetration. StoreCalving3D_Sik1_PlaM1_BasM1_PluM1_1__precalve0048.pvtu is the 3D model geometry from the same timestep, showing all the modelled variables. |
