Abstract:
Acoustic backscatter data were collected on board the RRS James Clark Ross during cruise JR19001 on 10/12/2019 in Stromness Harbour and South Georgia.
Data were collected using a Simrad EK60 echosounder at 38, 70, 120 and 200 kHz. The EK60 was calibrated on 09/12/2019 in Stromness Harbour, South Georgia. More information about the calibration can be found in the Cruise Report for JR19001.
This work was carried in the frame of the Polar Ocean Ecosystem TimeSeries - Western Core Box (POETS-WCB) project.

Quality: | Raw data (time, gps and acoustic) are not quality checked. The instrument was calibrated on 09/12/2019 in Stromness Harbour, South Georgia. | |
Lineage: | The dataset comprises Simrad EK60 raw format data files that have not undergone any processing or quality checking. Each data file contains approximately 14 minutes of data and is approximately 26 MB in size. Each data file contains raw ping data with associated GPS fixes and date/time. In order to process the data, 3 files in the TOML syntax language are supplied: - transect file (defines the start and end times for a given transect, list the raw and environmental files making up the transect, and references to associated metadata and calibration files) - water column active acoustic metadata file (compliant with ICES. 2016, a metadata convention for processed acoustic data from active acoustic systems, SISP 4 TG-AcMeta Version 1.10, ICES WGFAST Topic Group, TG-AcMeta. 47 pp.) - calibration file (calibration data and metadata ((compliant with ICES. 2016, a metadata convention for processed acoustic data from active acoustic systems, SISP 4 TG-AcMeta Version 1.10, ICES WGFAST Topic Group, TG-AcMeta. 47 pp.) |
