Abstract:
We present here a suite of ground-penetrating radar (GPR) data collected on Larsen C Ice Shelf, Antarctic Peninsula, in November and December 2022 as part of the NERC-funded RiPIce (Rift Propagation for Ice sheet models) research project. All data were acquired with a Sensors&Software pulsEKKO PRO GPR system, fitted with antennas of 50 MHz centre-frequency. The system was towed behind a snowmobile, with distances recorded with GPS.
This project is funded by a NERC standard grant NE-T008016-1.

Lineage/Methodology: | The data comprise three lines, collected ~20 km down-flow of the Joerg Peninsula: one flow-parallel (line 19) and two cross-flow (line 20 + 21 and line 22). Sampling interval was 1.2 ns and each trace represents a distance-average stack of eight individual traces, resulting in an average trace spacing of ~2.5 m. |

Data Collection: | Data were acquired with a Sensors&Software pulsEKKO PRO GPR system, fitted with antennas of 50 MHz centre-frequency. In a bistatic configuration, the dipole antennas were mounted in a perpendicular-broadside configuration on a plastic sledge (antenna separation 1.4 m), towed behind a skidoo. Sampling interval was 1.2 ns and each trace represents a distance-average stack of eight individual traces, resulting in an average trace spacing of ~2.5 m. Precise (+/- 0.1 m) planimetric location of each trace was achieved with a Leica VIVA GS10 Professional GNSS receiver, mounted on the snowmobile. |
