Abstract:
The cosmogenic nuclide dataset contains 15 x 10Be, 11 x 26Al and 14 x 21Ne cosmogenic nuclide concentrations for 9 bedrock and 6 boulder samples. Samples were collected by Rebecca Rixon in the austral summer of 2008/9 on the Wilkins Coast along a transect from Mount Faith in the Eternity Range via Mount Sullivan to Engels Peaks. Sample coordinates and elevations are provided in the data set, as are sample type and lithology.

| Quality: | Total 1 sigma uncertainties for the concentrations determined at SUERC include the 1 sigma uncertainty of the AMS measurement and a 3% uncertainty as a conservative estimate for possible effects of the chemical sample preparation which includes the uncertainty of the Be and Al concentrations of the carrier solutions. | |
| Lineage/Methodology: | Cosmogenic nuclide measurements were performed on the 5MV NEC 15SDH (5-MegaVolt National Electrostatics Corp. model no. 15SDH) accelerator mass spectrometry system at SUERC, East Kilbride, Scotland, UK. The data represent the results provided to Cosmogenic Isotope Analysis Allocation No. 9067.0409 and 9100.1010 - Constraining the past extent of The Antarctic Peninsula Ice Sheet: Paleoenvironmental and biological implications. Rock samples were processed for 10Be and 26Al measurement in quartz. The sample preparation and 10Be/26Al measurement procedures are described in detail in Wilson et al. (2008) and Ballantyne et al. (2009). Between 220 and 240mg Be was added as carrier per sample. Inherent Al concentrations in quartz were determined with an ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry) at Scottish Universities Environmental Research Center (SUERC). The relative standard uncertainty of this determination was 3%. Al carrier was added to most samples so that 1.6 mg Al per sample was reached. The 10Be/9Be and 26Al/27Al ratios were measured with the 5MV accelerator mass spectrometer at SUERC. Measurement is described in detail in Xu et al. (2010). Neon isotopes were analysed statically at SUERC in a Mass Analyser Products MAP 215 magnetic sector mass spectrometer equipped with a modified Nier-type ion source, a Faraday detector and an axial electron multiplier (Burle channeltron) operated in pulse-counting mode (Codilean et al. 2008). |
