Summary
Abstract:
The data are seismic time series collected by accelerometers and geophones deployed radially around a rift tip stalled in the Joerg suture zone, Larsen C Ice Shelf, Antarctic Peninsula. Data were collected November-December 2022 during the RiPIce (Rift Propagation for Ice sheet models) field campaign with the aim to link seismicity to rift processes.

| Lineage/Methodology: | 29 single component (vertical) accelerometers and 3 three component geophones were deployed radially around a rift tip terminating at a suture zone on the Larsen C Ice Shelf, buried at a depth of 5cm. Deployment began on 20/11/2022 and was complete by 23/11/2022. Retrieval began on 06/12/2022. Horizontal components were deployed relative to magnetic north but are provided here rotated to grid north (1) and grid east (2) based on the IGRF declination at station locations (Alken et al., 2019). Other than rotation, no other processing has been applied to the seismic data provided here. Sercel SegD was converted using the Python package SegD_reader (GitHub - SEGDreader/SEGD_reader - GitHub; Lapins & Mackay-Champion, 2026). To maintain relative station positions, station locations at time of deployment were corrected for ice flow during the deployment period relative to the first station deployed (RA07) using the MEaSUREs average ice velocity (Mouginot et al., 2018) and assuming negligible change in 2022. Data were recorded at 1000 Hz and therefore the Nyquist frequency is 500 Hz, above which data will alias. | |

| Data Storage: | A CSV file of station names, locations and deployment times is provided in station_info.csv. Each day of the year of the deployment has its own directory, within which each station component has an hourly SEG-Y file corresponding to the hour's seismic data. Filenames follow the format STATION_COMPONENT_HOUR.segy with HOUR referring the start hour of the file. Each hour long file is made up of 30 second sequential traces. Stations names beginning with RA correspond to accelerometers and RG to geophones. |
